FAQ

FAQ

Q: What makes your COLONY vampire series unique from other vampires stories out there?
A: My vampires can alter their age based upon the amount of blood they consume. I haven’t run across this in any other paranormal series, and many of my fans comment favorably on it when leaving reviews. My vampires can also speak at a high pitch that only they and dogs can hear. In every novel/novella so far these abilities have come into play.

Q: Where do you get your information about the military, CIA, FBI, etc?
A: I read a lot, but my personal experience comes from my family. I grew up living on military bases until I was seventeen, my father was career military and CIA, and my grandfather worked with the Secret Service.

Q: What made you decide to make your vampires so culturally diverse?
A: It just seemed natural to do so. I guess growing up on military bases I see diversity as normal. I have Caucasian, African American, and Hawaiian vampires. So far my vampires have either not mentioned their religion or have said they are Catholic, but I do have a Jewish vampire appearing in a Christmas novella I’m working on.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: All over. Mostly from songs.

Q: Are you a full time author?
A: I wish! I have a full-time job outside the home. Between that, my husband and two teenage children, and two puppies at home, I have a pretty packed schedule. I am currently working on book #6 of the COLONY series, and I’ve only been writing this series for just under five years now. If I could write full-time, I’d have many more novels written.

Q: Why did you choose to self publish?
A: Until I started writing this series, I had nothing else published – not even magazine articles or short stories. I didn’t have anything to show to an agent or editor for past writing experience and a teacher at the Writers League of Texas suggested that I publish a few novels myself to prove the marketability of my writing before I approached agents in the future.

Q: Are you a pantser or outliner?
A: I’m a total outliner. I have mentioned 15 other characters in the series and each one will get their own novels. I have the next two novels already somewhat outlined. 🙂 And, yes. Kekoa will get his own book. So many of my fans loved him from novel #2 and asked that I spotlight him.

Q: You introduced a bad guy in novel #3. Is this character returning in future novels?
A: I’d say you have to keep reading to find out, but I won’t have you wait that long. So many of my fans loved to hate her and she will be returning. 🙂

Q: You mentioned on Facebook you’re working on a time travel series. Is this true?
A: Yes! I have a short story and a novel that will be available in the spring and summer of 2016. I have a followup short story that will be out within a year after the novel. All three stories are in the same world. The time travel is from 2192 back to 1862 and to Lincoln’s White House.
